The three major artists from the High Renaissance who are well known throughout the western world are Raphael, Leonardo da Vinci, and Michelangelo.
Raphael, who lived from 1483- 1520, painted a fresco of ‘The School of Athens’ this painting became one of his best known works of art. It was painted between the years 1509- 1511, this fresco covers one of the rooms of the Apostolic in the Vatican.
Leonardo da Vinci, who should only be referred to as Leonardo, lived from 1452- 1519. His most famous work is the ‘Last Supper’. Unfortunately while in the process of painting this masterpiece Leonardo was using experimental methods which left the painting susceptible to disintegration, though thankfully parts of it are still visibly defined.
Michelangelo is best known for his marble statue, the ‘Pieta’, this statue shows young Mary holding Jesus. He is widely known throughout the world as possibly the greatest artist in all time. He lived from 1475- 1564, working diligently for 70 years of his life.
Thankfully we are able to enjoy the fabulous work of these artists along with our every day pleasures of life.
