Contributions from the Monks

The early monks made many contributions to European society. They continued to work in saving agriculture when all of Rome had seemed to forget it. They were highly capable in technology. They established many Cisterian factories, for use of waterpower, crushing wheat, sieving flour, fulling cloth, and tanning. Some monks were great educators, quite a few of them built schools. They also copied ancient manuscripts restoring and protecting them so that we are able to have the privilege of reading some of those great works today. I certainly did not know that monks contributed so greatly to our life today, who knows what our world would be like today without them.
