Frederick Douglass was very fortunate to have learned how to read during his time as a slave. He, unlike other slaves, was able to use his ability to read to free himself from slavery.
No experience during my life has come close to the way Douglass’s learning how to read impacted him. Although I have had quite an experience that has changed my life forever.
The big change happened when we bought a hotel and moved into it. Not so bad right? You don’t have the whole story though. This hotel was located in Vilcabamba, Ecuador- in South America. By moving to this foreign country I have learned so much about Spanish, horses, kitchen work, managing a hotel, and just plain life.
This experience during my life came with many changes, but it is nothing compared to how the impact of reading changed Frederick Douglass’s life to a life of freedom.
